I’m Jean,

a senior undergraduate student at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte. I am pursuing a B.S. in Computer Science with a concentration in Data Science, and my love for math has inspired me to pursue a minor in mathematics as well. As a first-generation college student, I am determined to honor my family and my Ecuadorian heritage. Like my grandfather, I enjoy playing musical instruments, practicing portrait drawing, and exploring classical and foreign literature. I also love learning new skills—for example, I am currently studying Mandarin!

Skills

Since I was 10, I have been learning programming languages. I started with HTML and CSS, and later JavaScript. Eventually, I began developing with Python and SQL, and later learned Java, R, Bash, Assembly, and the rest of the C family. I always branch out to learn new languages to maximize what I can achieve.

In my academic and professional experience, I have had to learn and adapt to many platforms, services, and frameworks, carefully vetting and surveying their strengths to achieve optimal performance. Some of the tools and technologies I have worked with include Visual Studio Code, PyCharm, Node.js, XAMPP, Juniper, Linux, AWS Cloud, MySQL, Matplotlib, NumPy, TensorFlow, React, and others.

I am interested in statistical analysis and modeling, using data mining and machine learning to predict, automate, and optimize decision-making. I enjoy exploring how these techniques can advance deep learning research and approach language modeling from new paradigms. I also have an early interest in full-stack development, tweaking and formatting user interfaces to enhance the user experience, and working with databases and service providers to support my projects. My love for gaming and interactive play has also inspired me to explore game development on occasion.

I have developed a strong foundation in statistics and mathematical modeling, applying these skills to analyze complex datasets and draw meaningful conclusions. I leverage this expertise in database management, designing and querying relational databases to efficiently organize and retrieve information. In my projects I employ these tools to uncover patterns, predictions, and support data-driven decision-making. This interdisciplinary approach allows me to bridge the gap between quantitative analysis and practical implementation.
